The first time I heard the song was Animal Collective's version on MTV'S SKINS. It definitely was perfect for the moment we meet Tony in the very first episode. The song is "my girls". And SKINS definitely gave a twisted take on the song. Truly the band has made the song their own. Although, basically, the song is about the love of providing for your family. And I love the simplicity of the words. It gives a feel of the beauty of a landscape life, so natural with a rich history. Perhaps, seeing 'my girls' as perhaps mother earth..as well..in the big picture of it. If you are looking at the meaning of the song.
Recently, I heard TAKEN BY TREES' version..titled 'my boys'..and fell in love with the song all over again. Its amazing the unique voice in this song. Its so sincere and genuine. Taken by Trees is the solo project of Victoria Bergsman, former lead singer for the Concretes.
I'll have to say...I love both versions.
